Professor Joanne Harris joined the University of East London in January 2025 as the new Dean of Medical Education. Previously Dean of Medicine at the University of Buckingham and a practicing General Practitioner, she introduced innovative curriculum enhancements to meet evolving healthcare needs and was recently awarded the tender to develop a 4-year protype undergraduate medical curriculum for NHS England.
Prior to this, Joanne held academic leadership positions at Imperial College London, where she led the MBBS curriculum review, incorporating community-based placements and initiatives to enhance student wellbeing. Joanne has a professional Doctorate in Education with a thesis focusing on the cultural aspects of professional identity formation of medical students. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA).
