As Director of Education and Experience in the School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering, Andy is the education & experience strategic lead for the School. He has responsibility for the implementation of the education and experience aspects of the Vision 2028 Strategy and at a local level the development and delivery of the School's plans to improve the student experience, student success, retention and progression, to advance excellence in learning and teaching, to assure the quality of the University's academic courses, to deliver improvements to the University's TEF metrics and meet its commitments to its Access and Participation Plan.

Andy Rees is Director of Education & Experience in the School of Architecture, Arts, Computing and Engineering at the University of East London and lead for the Institutional Mental Wealth Framework.

Since arriving at UEL in February 2016, Andy has led on a number of institutional projects including the development of an academic advisors framework, the peer enhancement policy and the learning and teaching framework.

In his previous roles in HE in FE he led on the significant growth of Access and HE for a provider in South Essex, building the largest provision in the region as well as developing innovative partnerships with industry and other HEIs.

He also contributed to the development of three major capital builds across South Essex, shaping the learning environments to support engagement and widen access.Educated at Nottingham and Westminster Universities, Andy initially followed a career in fashion photography where his work was widely published. Andy's engagement with Higher Education was driven by his desire to integrate employment practice into pedagogy and to widen participation and access, and both areas have been central themes to the work he has led over the last twenty years.

Andy's research explores the two, sometimes connected subject areas of landscape in digital wilderness and the histories and futures of pedagogic spaces. He has exhibited in venues across the UK and America and has a forthcoming touring show in 2022 titled 'the New Education 2'.
