Andrew is a Visiting Fellow in the School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering.

After working as a teacher from 1975 to 1979 and as a civil servant from 1980 to 2005, he returned to mathematical research following his retirement from full-time employment.

He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Warwick (1971), a Master of Science and Master of Philosophy from the University of Essex (1972 and 1976), and a Master of Science from the University of Oxford (1985).

Andrew is a member of the London Mathematical Society.

OVERVIEW

Andrew is a mathematician who moved into numerical analysis, particularly approximation methods. In the 1980s he studied geodesy, a branch of mathematics related to surveying and map-making.

Since 2014, he has taken a special interest in geodetic datum transformations (the mathematical relationship between different positioning systems). This was the subject of his PhD at UEL (2021) and several published papers recorded in Google Scholar (mostly downloadable from ResearchGate). He has also done peer reviews for eight journals spanning five continents.

Apart from his research, Andrew has created a website of his cartoons and animations. He is also a lay preacher and trade unionist. In the latter role, he was elected President of Prospect's 20,000-strong Retired Members Group.
