OVERVIEW
Dr Anas Sattar, with over 15 years of experience in microbiology and immunology, is currently a lecturer in biomedical sciences at the University of East London. He holds a PhD in Biomedical and Healthcare Sciences from the University of Plymouth and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Before joining UEL, he co-founded and served as a senior research and development scientist at a biotech startup, developing a patented rapid testing kit for bacterial contamination in water. Dr Sattar has published several research articles, holds multiple patents, and has mentored numerous undergraduate and postgraduate students.

CURRENT RESEARCH AND IMPACT
Most recent research
- Rapid Detection of bacterial contamination in water
- Evaluation of the proinflammatory effects of contaminated bathing water
- A Label-Free DNA-Immunosensor Based on Aminated rGO Electrode for the Quantification of DNA Methylation
Endotoxin as a Marker for Water Quality:
This research led to the establishment of a successful spin-out company and resulted in seven granted patents, with additional patents pending worldwide. The innovative work in using endotoxins as a marker for water quality has significantly advanced the field, providing a crucial rapid screening tool for detecting bacterial contamination. These advancements contribute to reducing public health risks by improving water safety and quality.
