Following their success at UEL's FinTech Hackathon in April, the winning teams were invited by Ava Labs (Avalanche) to the historic city of Bath on 8 May 2025. The visit brought together FinTech entrepreneurs from around the world, including teams from Argentina (Bufi), India (Pharmaalabs), Turkey and China, creating a unique opportunity for global collaboration.
The UEL teams presented their innovative ESG Banking apps, including the ESG Carbon-Tracking Bank and EcoTrack, designed to incentivise sustainable behaviour through carbon footprint tracking and Green Coins rewards via the Avalanche blockchain. These solutions aim to bridge sustainability with financial benefits, offering real-time monitoring and carbon offset mechanisms.
Reflecting on the visit, Professor Iwa Salami, Director of the UEL Centre of FinTech, said,
It was inspiring to see our students engaging with global innovators, sharing ideas, and receiving valuable feedback. This kind of exposure is crucial for developing the next generation of FinTech leaders."
Other global projects included Pharmaalabs, which uses blockchain to secure pharmaceutical supply chains and the Movya Wallet, enabling seamless crypto transactions without private keys.
The day ended with insightful feedback sessions, a shared lunch and a chance to explore Bath's beautiful historic landscape. The UEL teams expressed their gratitude to Terra Milligan, Eamonn Deane and Professor Iwa Salami for making the visit a success.
Following this event, the team lead for one of the winning teams was invited by Avalanche to participate in their XSpaces Avalanche Campus Builder Roundtable alongside other founders. Again, he used this as a platform to share the solution his team worked on at the April Hackathon and his amazing learning experience at the UEL Centre of FinTech. The insightful session can be listened to.
