Robert Waterson, Dean of the School of Health, Sport and Bioscience at the University of East London (UEL), said:
The University of East London warmly welcomes the Government’s 10-Year Health Plan. As a civic university embedded in one of the UK’s most diverse communities facing some of the country’s starkest health inequalities, we strongly support the Plan’s shift from hospital to community, analogue to digital, and sickness to prevention."
"UEL is already delivering on this vision through our Year of Health programme. Our new Stratford Health Campus and University Neighbourhood Health Hub are being purpose-built to train NHS professionals, advance digital-first health research, and provide preventative, community-based care for over 70,000 local residents. The Hub aligns directly with the Government’s Neighbourhood Health Service ambitions, bringing together education, clinical services, and innovation to tackle health inequalities where they are most acute.
We are also evolving our education practice to prepare graduates for the future NHS, and strongly support calls for sustainable funding for nursing and allied health apprenticeships. Our partnerships with London Healthcare Education Group, NHS Trusts, Integrated Care Boards and national campaigns like Health Equals underline our deep commitment to reducing health disparities through education, research, and civic impact."
Professor Amanda Broderick, Vice-Chancellor and President, said:
The Government’s 10-Year Health Plan rightly calls for a radical rethink of how care is delivered in this country. But to succeed, we must also think again about the role of universities. Universities like UEL are not only talent pipelines – we are also active partners in public health, community infrastructure, and workforce transformation. Our Stratford Health Campus and pioneering University Neighbourhood Health Hub are living proof that education, innovation, and community care can – and must – go hand-in-hand. We are proud to stand with the NHS and government in building a healthier, fairer future.”
