As part of the University of East London’s Year of Health, the 2025 National Student Survey (NSS) results offer a powerful reflection of how our learning environment is supporting both the academic success and personal wellbeing of students across all Schools.
In a year where UEL is championing physical, emotional, and academic well-being, the data tells a compelling story of growth, trust, and connection. From high levels of academic satisfaction to strong emotional support and student engagement, the results reinforce our commitment to creating a healthier University experience, one that nurtures both minds and futures.
These results are a timely reminder that building a healthier future begins with truly listening to our students and responding to what they need most.

*The Overall Positivity scores replicate the Times Higher Education (THE) methodology from 2024. We calculated a proxy positivity score by aggregating the percentage of ‘Very Good’ and ‘Good’ responses across 27 NSS questions. This analysis includes only institutions with over 1,000 responses. Using this methodology, we benchmarked the University of East London (UEL) against similarly sized public competitors.
Health-focused programmes leading the way
UEL’s commitment to health and wellbeing is particularly evident in several top-performing programmes within the School of Health, Sport and Bioscience, where student experience continues to strengthen:
In the 2025 NSS, the School saw an 8 per cent improvement in Organisation and Management and a 4 per cent increase in Student Voice from last year, highlighting better communication, stronger support systems, and a learning environment where students feel genuinely heard. Additionally, UEL achieved national first-place rankings across several wellbeing-aligned categories:
- Environmental and Public Health both ranked 1st in the UK for Academic Support and Assessment and Feedback, reflecting outstanding staff accessibility, clarity, and care, key pillars of academic wellbeing.
- Biomedical science ranked 1st in the UK for Student Voice, showing UEL’s commitment to listening, responding, and fostering emotional wellbeing through student empowerment.
- Chemistry ranked 1st in the UK for Learning Resources. This achievement reflects the department’s commitment to providing students with outstanding academic support, modern lab facilities, and comprehensive study materials that foster a world-class learning environment.
A strong start for the School of Childhood and Social Care
Appearing in the NSS for the first time as a newly combined School, Childhood and Social Care achieved a promising debut performance:
