Nurun Choudhury qualifies as solicitor after receiving LAC's inaugural trainee contract
The University of East London’s (UEL) Legal Advice Centre (LAC) is celebrating a significant milestone, with a trainee from the centre qualifying as a solicitor for the very first time. Nurun Choudhury became the first trainee to receive her practicing certificate on 15 March, after completing the profession’s Legal Practice Course (LPC). Her achievements are all the more impressive, as she was working at the centre as an administrator while studying.
Her success highlights the LAC’s commitment to advancing students' prospects in their legal careers. The centre was awarded training provider status by the Solicitors Regulation Authority in 2021, allowing it to supervise training contracts for the first time. The accreditation represented a significant step forward for both the LAC and the University in their mission to empower students and enhance their practical legal experience.
The Director of the LAC, Saadiya Ahmad, played a key role in winning the coveted training provider status. She said, "Having dedicated two years to her role as LAC lead while simultaneously training and completing her LPC, Nurun exemplifies perseverance and dedication. Her journey underscores the value of the training and support provided by the centre in preparing aspiring solicitors for the legal profession. As the recipient of our first training contract, her achievement reaffirms LAC's commitment to nurturing UEL talent and shaping the future of the legal profession."
Nurun Choudhury said:
I am delighted to have qualified as a solicitor and am indebted to the LAC which provided a vital learning space and invaluable hands-on experience. My journey as a UEL student from volunteer to eventually assistant and lead at the LAC exemplifies the centre's impact and the transformative opportunities it offers to aspiring law students."
