The University of East London’s newest academic journal, Patterns of Practice: An International Journal of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) will launch in August.
This peer-reviewed, open-access journal is jointly hosted by UEL’s Department of Education, the School of Education and Communities and the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching.
Patterns of Practice will be published biannually, with editions released in the spring/summer and autumn/winter. The journal aims to provide a rigorous and innovative platform for discussion, debate, and practice on all aspects of SoTL in higher education. It seeks to foster informed dialogue and exploration, making it a significant addition to the academic landscape.
The journal is led by joint editors-in-chief Dr Gabriella F Buttarazzi and Dr Warren Kidd. Dr Buttarazzi is associated with UEL’s Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, while Dr Kidd is part of the School of Education and Communities. Both editors bring a wealth of experience and are enthusiastic about the journal's potential to impact teaching and learning practices globally.
The editors welcome contributions that address contemporary and relevant issues in teaching and learning, with a particular focus on inclusivity, authenticity, and readiness for the 21st century. The journal’s multidisciplinary and international scope ensures a broad range of perspectives and practices are represented.
Submissions are invited in two formats:
1. Full Submissions (4,000 words): Comprehensive academic pieces showcasing originality, depth, and scholarly rigour.
2. Updates (2,000 words): Shorter articles focused on emerging ideas, rapid responses, or opinion pieces.
Patterns of Practice embraces a broad definition of SoTL within higher education. This includes various levels of practice, outreach activities by higher education providers, and the interplay between higher education and further education. The journal aims to reflect diverse national and regional practices, fostering a rich and inclusive academic dialogue.
Academics and practitioners interested in contributing can find detailed information about the journal's aims, scope, editorial board, and the first call for papers on the Patterns of Practice website.
