UEL student Ziana Butt has been awarded the Digital and Technology Apprentice of The Year award at the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards 2024.
Ziana, who completed her apprenticeship with Accenture, was chosen from a group of 20 nominees for the prestigious award. Another UEL student, Bolu Olawaye - who completed an apprenticeship with Howden Group - was also shortlisted, showcasing the exceptional talent nurtured at the University.
The Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards, organised by The Pathway Group in partnership with Pearson, celebrate the achievements of multicultural British apprentices, their employers, and learning providers. This year’s event, held at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre on 1 November, honoured 30 winners from a record-breaking 450 nominations, highlighting the transformative impact of apprenticeships
Dr Mohammad Hossein Amirhosseini, course leader for the Digital and Technology Solutions apprenticeship programme, expressed his pride:
The experience was unforgettable. Not only was it a joy to support them in person, but I was also deeply moved to witness one of our outstanding Apprentices, Ziana Butt, win the award! Seeing our Apprentice recognized on such a prestigious stage brought tears to my eyes and filled me with immense pride.
"As course leader and module leader for some of their modules, it’s incredibly fulfilling to see such dedication and skill celebrated at a national level. Their achievements underscore the invaluable impact of diverse perspectives and experiences within the digital technology sector, demonstrating how determination and passion can break barriers and open new possibilities."
Ziana shared her excitement and gratitude, saying:
I am thrilled beyond words to be recognised as the winner of Digital and Technology Apprentice of the Year. Each of the other 19 finalists were equally worthy of recognition and I share this award with them.
My journey would not have been possible without the immense support I have had along the way from Accenture UK & Ireland Apprenticeship Team, each of my project managers, the elite athlete program, the University of East London and my parents Irfan Butt and Niala Butt. I will continue to champion alternate routes into technology, apprenticeships and I hope to see many more women enter the profession as it has so much to offer.
Accenture also celebrated the achievement, adding:
“It was a fantastic night celebrating the transformative impact of Apprenticeships at the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards - an inspiring reminder of the impact apprenticeships have on young lives and the future of our workforce at Accenture UK & Ireland.
Apprenticeships provide young people with the confidence, skills, and opportunities to shine and excel in their chosen paths; and we were so happy to see our very own apprentice Ziana Butt recognised as the winner of Digital and Technology Apprentice of the Year!”
