As hundreds of thousands of students across the UK receive their A-level results today, the University of East London has seen a significant number of calls and online enquiries from prospective students eager to secure a place at the university.
As at 3pm, more than 1,000 calls had been answered by trained advisors in UEL’s dedicated Clearing centre – with some of the most popular subjects being enquired about including Accounting and Finance, Allied Health, Law, Computer Science, and Biomedical Science.
Olympic Champion and Newham resident Christine Ohuruogu MBE was on site to offer words of wisdom to those deciding their future. The UEL Visiting Ambassador said:
As an athlete, I know all too well what it’s like when things don’t go exactly as planned but so often these experiences make us stronger and allow us to look at things differently and explore other ways of doing things.
For many, Clearing could be a blessing in disguise, opening possibilities for study that may not have been previously considered."
Joining Ms Ohuruogu on-site at UEL’s Docklands Clearing Centre was University of East London Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Amanda Broderick who offered her congratulations to all those across the UK who secured their spots in higher education.
She said, “Today is a pivotal moment for so many young people who have chosen the incredibly rewarding path to pursue further education, and, as a modern and welcoming institution, we are here to help them make informed choices on what those next steps on their journey will look like.”
“Whether they have received the grades they hoped for – or are exploring alternative options – our goal is to support them through this process and welcome them into our exceptional UEL community that realises the potential of all and works tirelessly to advance social mobility.”
UEL is committed to becoming the UK’s leading careers-first university - diversifying the talent pipeline to flourish in future careers and advancing that future inclusively and sustainably.
In July, the university achieved top results in the 2024 National Student Survey (NSS), with our graduating students rating their student experience 1st in London, 1st in England and 3rd in the UK.
UEL Vice-President of Engagement and Chief Marketing Officer Vanessa Varvas was also on hand to offer perspective students reassurance and advice on their next steps. She said:
“My first piece of advice is to not panic – there are plenty of avenues available to everyone, including those with differing qualifications and grades, as well as those who didn’t get the results they were expecting.”
“It’s normal to feel a bit unsteady but Clearing can be an opportunity to rethink your options, and you never know, you might find something that piques your interest that you hadn’t previously considered.”
At UEL, anyone with ambition and hard work can turn aspiration into reality with access to the best contacts, expertise, and support, with courses designed to develop the essential competencies and skills for a rapidly changing world.
In addition to young people receiving their results, UEL’s Clearing team also spent the day liaising with mature students (those over the age of 21) who are also considering university for the first time – using the late application route – with many options available for those without traditional qualifications.
