UEL’s art gallery re-opens

Way Out East, the University of East London’s art gallery has re-opened, with artworks made by the University’s teaching and technical staff the stars of the first new exhibition.  

The show “Not Only…But Also” is running until 29 October 2023 at the AVA building in the Docklands campus and marks the completion of the £1 million refurbishment of the building entrance and the gallery itself. 

Way Out East has a packed programme of exhibitions and arts events coming up, with an architecture exhibition, a group art show and a performance art showcase all taking place before the end of the year.  

The gallery specialises in showing art produced by UEL students and staff, with a huge range of works on display in previous exhibitions, including sculpture, photographs, works on canvas, video art and installations. But artists from outside the University have frequently been invited to take part, with the gallery proud of its reputation for active collaboration and inclusivity.  

Way Out East opened in 2019 and recently expanded, work that was part of a renovation project by UEL’s own School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering. It is open from 9am to 10pm on weekdays and from 11am to 5pm on Saturdays.
