The UEL Legal Advice Centre, in conjunction with the Department of Law, Policing and Justice, will be hosting Gina Miller, Leader of True and Fair Party and Co-Founder of SCM Direct and MoneyShe, to deliver a talk about her journey to law students on Wednesday, 8 November, at 1 pm.
Gina Miller studied for a degree in marketing, and an MSc in human resource management at UEL and in 2017, she received an honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University 30 years from when she had attended as a student.
A dynamic businesswoman, activist and now UK political party leader, she co-founded SCM Direct in 2009 as a democratising, modern wealth management company with values rooted in honesty, fairness, and transparency to counter issues in the sector that contributed to poor consumer outcomes and the Global Financial Crisis of 2007/2008.
In June 2020, Gina launched MoneyShe, dedicated to empowering women and educating them on topics such as investing and pensions so they are better able to look after their financial health. In 2012, Gina co-founded the True and Fair Campaign aimed at increasing UK investor and pension protection and improving governance and regulations within the financial services sector.
Gina became a household name in 2017 after taking the UK government to the Supreme Court and again in 2019, securing historic constitutional victories and prohibiting two UK Prime Ministers from putting themselves above the law.
Most recently, Gina launched a new political party, the True & Fair Party, with the strap ‘We deserve better’, which will focus on cleaning up politics and electoral reform and sustainable, pragmatic policymaking.
Saadiya Ahmad, Director of Careers and Enterprise and Director of the Legal Advice Centre at RDSBL, said:
A prominent businesswoman, passionate philanthropist and tireless campaigner, we are delighted to be welcoming Honorary Doctorate Gina Miller to UEL to hear about her inspiring journey and career.”
Nurun Choudhury, the Lead for the Legal Advice Centre, said: “Gina Miller has achieved outstanding accomplishments in her field with exceptional contributions in fighting injustice in society. We are honoured that she will be coming as a Guest Speaker to LAC and that our students will have the opportunity to hear from her."
This event will take place in UEL’s Mock Court Room based at University Square Stratford, East London.
