Director of the Centre of FinTech and Reader (Associate Professor), Iwa Salami, has been appointed as one of 15 members to the CBDC Academic Advisory Group (AAG) which will support the next phase of work on the digital pound, and be co-chaired by the Bank of England and HM Treasury. It will bring together academic experts from a range of disciplines including, but not limited to, macroeconomics, finance, competition economics, industrial organisation, behavioural science, law, innovation theory, marketing, and business.
Associate Professor Iwa Salami commented,
This appointment is especially important for UEL as it reflects the impact of our research and contribution beyond academia and its application by government agencies and in this case supporting the Bank of England and HM Treasury on the decision about the digital pound (UK’s potential Central Bank Digital Currency). It also fulfils another objective of the Centre of FinTech-which is that the Centre and its staff would lead in the policy and regulatory dimensions of FinTech. This appointment is a testament to this objective.
