The University of East London’s construction courses have been ranked as the best in the country in a wide range of categories, according to the latest National Student Survey (NSS). The courses were rated number one in the UK in eight categories, the survey found, including key ones like “Teaching on my Course” and “Student Voice.”
The survey asks students in all higher education institutions their opinions on the quality of their courses, and is widely regarded as the most accurate measure of student satisfaction.
UEL’s construction management course was also highly rated by students, with 100 per cent of those who replied, responded positively to questions on six themes including “Teaching on my Course” and “Academic Support”.
100 per cent of responding students on UEL’s civil engineering courses were also positive when answering questions in the “Academic Support” category, with the courses rated the best in London for “Student Voice” and “Assessment and Feedback.”
The Dean of UEL’s School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering (ACE), Professor David Tann, welcomed the survey results, saying,
“The School has achieved an impressive 15 number one positions in the UK across a range of courses. Additionally, many of our art, architecture, computing, construction, design, and engineering courses have also secured numerous top positions for positivity across the 28 NSS questions, both nationally and in London.
These results show the exceptional dedication of my colleagues, both academic and professional services, to supporting our students in the ACE academic family. Our students and staff’s commitment to excellence, talent and determination, has contributed to our university’s position of educational excellence in the country en route to our remarkable Vision 2028 journey”.

What our students say:
“I come from a working-class family and I’m the first person in my family to do a degree. If you want to do something and it’s your passion, go and do it, there’s opportunities out there” Adam, civil engineering student.
“UEL is special because of the art and creative design cluster. When you come into this atmosphere, you feel creative! You want to do creative stuff, you are surrounded by creativity, and there are so many facilities. In UEL, you have access to the facilities even after graduation, which makes a massive difference! I have been doing screen printing this year, and I love it. I cannot stop doing it. I print on fabric and print on paper. Going forward, I will continue to mix with embroidery and screen printing. It is my final year, and I am just starting! It’s fantastic to graduate because I have this urge; I have this fire!” Kemarie Walker, graphic design student.
“The University has done something very powerful for me because I feel much more focused and efficient than when I started. At UEL, you feel that you are part of a family, and you don’t find that anywhere else. I would strongly recommend people to come here and see the amazing work that we have been doing. University of East London is the future. It’s a great place to study and it’s a nice place to be.” Rafael Ives Ribeiro Fischer, architecture student.
