The School of Education and Communities has hosted the London CfEM Hub FE Maths Challenge Cross-College Final.

Around 100 Level 2 16-19 year olds took part in the final at the Stratford Campus following a nationwide competition featuring 16,000 students.

Dean of the School, Richard Harty, presented the winners, New City College and Southwark College, with prizes, as well as the runners up.

The challenge games played were Tarsia and Kahoot.

Andrea McMahon, head of education development and training in the School of Education and Communities said, "It was a fantastic afternoon and great to see so many enthusiastic learners getting excited about maths! Everybody enjoyed it, and it was an amazing achievement for those who took part in the competition and got through to the final - everyone was a winner."

Elizabeth Hopker, Centre Lead at Newham College Centre for Excellence in Maths, said, "The atmosphere, the staff, the learners – everything was brilliant to be a part of - especially when we know that engagement and motivation with maths up to can be a really complex issue, and varies learner by learner. It was wonderful to see you all in person after months of online communication.

"The biggest thanks go to the learners for how they represented themselves and the amazing atmosphere that was created - it really was a truly special afternoon, and the learners are the entire reason that this event was able to happen."

Below are the final standings - these positions are made up of the combined score from the Tarsia round and the Kahoot round - in the same way that the college final scores were calculated.
