British Wheelchair Basketball has announced that the BBC will show eight games live across the inaugural season of the Women's Premier League.
The British Wheelchair Basketball Women's Premier League is a game-changer for the sport. It will be the first of its kind for women's wheelchair basketball and the very first female professional para-sport league in the UK.
Lisa Pearce, British Wheelchair Basketball's Chief Executive, said, "We are delighted to announce the BBC as the broadcaster for the inaugural season of the Women's Premier League. Wheelchair basketball is an incredible sport, and it is really important to us that as many people as possible are able to experience the thrill of the game - many for the first time ever as a domestic competition."
Why watch wheelchair basketball?
Played at lighting speed, wheelchair basketball is one of the world's fastest-growing sports after gaining popularity at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.
There are already 17,000 players across over 200 teams in the UK, and 21% of all national league players are non-disabled (British Wheelchair Basketball, 2021).
The East London Phoenix are an inclusive team open to all including aspiring players or sports fans. Speaking to BBC Radio London, Phoenix player Amy Conroy said, "People can come along to just try it out recreationally, or if they have big dreams to go on to play for GB. The new league is going to make it more accessible, plus I think it's a riot to watch!"

The East London Phoenix are a University of East London (UEL) franchise and the only team from London to compete in the ground-breaking new league.
