The University of East London's MSc Applied Sport and Exercise Sciences (Sport Psychology) course is now endorsed by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) under the Post Graduate SEPAR Endorsement Scheme (PSES).
This will give course graduates an accelerated status through the Sport and Exercise Psychology Accreditation Route (SEPAR). This is the professional qualifications pathway to becoming a sport and exercise psychologist.
Course leader James Beale said,
I am delighted to get the course recognised by the sport and exercise science governing body. This official recognition will be a huge help to our students once they graduate and look to pursue their professional qualifications as it will give them more direction and an accelerated status compared to other courses that are not recognised in this way."
The course sits within UEL's School of Health, Sport and Bioscience. Head of Department, Applied Sport & Exercise Sciences, Associate Professor Stewart Bruce-Low, said, "The course receiving professional body recognition ensures credibility and quality, and allows our students to be exposed to the best opportunities for preparation for a career in this area.
"This now positions the course as one of the first and leading courses in the UK that has this endorsement from BASES which puts the course and thus the student experience at the very vanguard of the industry."
The course looks at ways of enhancing athlete, player and other high performing groups outcomes through the use of sports psychology principles, theories and techniques. It involves assisting relevant groups with performance enhancement, research and industry placements.
The University's close proximity to the home of the London 2012 Olympics, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, means students have access to these sporting venues and leading industry partners.
