The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan joined Baroness Karren Brady CBE and UEL's vice-chancellor and president, Professor Amanda Broderick at a special event hosted by the Royal Docks School of Business and Law (RDSBL) chaired by the Dean Professor Mohammad Ali.
"Re-imagining the Future of Business and Law: an East London Perspective" took place at the University Square Stratford (USS) campus on Tuesday 29 March.
UEL announced the launch of two new spaces at USS: a mock courtroom - complete with dock, witness box and gallery - which was unveiled by the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan; and the Strategy and Marketing Analytics laboratory, designed in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and unveiled by John Davies, director, Regional Government UK, Worldwide Public Sector at AWS.
UEL sat down for an exclusive interview with the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan where he spoke about:
- the potential opportunities to seek employment in businesses in London, both in small and big companies
- garnering experience outside of the lecture hall by participating in talks, getting involved with your local community, doing work experience and "aiming for the stars"
- his love for law and how the subject provides you with transferable skills such as advocacy, absorbing facts, arguing a case, interpersonal skills and communication, all of which helped provide a foundation to his political career.
- his move with City Hall HQ to the Royal Docks and how the centre of London is moving East. He commented
Central London politics being in this part of London could be the catalyst East London needs for more employers, jobs and homes".
