Graduation ceremonies bring families together, and the Griffiths family had two reasons to celebrate as father Huw Griffiths and his daughter Hannah Griffiths both graduated from the University of East London (UEL) on Wednesday 15 September 2021.
Huw Griffiths received his PGCert in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound during the same ceremony as daughter Hannah Griffiths received her first-class BSc in Physiotherapy.
Huw is a Clinical Lead Physiotherapist working for Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and has worked for the NHS since 1991 as a Chartered physiotherapist.
Hannah is following in her father's footsteps and has secured her first job as an NHS physiotherapist at London's King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Finding work is not easy for people at the minute and many of my friends are struggling to get jobs. Although it's been tough at times studying during the pandemic, I'm so happy to be graduating from UEL and to already have a full-time job secured,"
Hannah Griffiths, UEL physiotherapy graduate, said.
On studying and graduating at the same time as his daughter, Huw said, "It highlights that education is a lifelong process enriching both the professional and personal lives of those that engage with it."
"UEL has been very effective in facilitating and providing quality training suitable for the different requirements at various stages of the student journey. Although there were different technical and practical requirements, it is apparent that the fundamentals of educational philosophy and approach underpin the learning experience both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels."
Huw said, "It was funny because at times Hannah would be in one room on an online lecture and I would be next door. On one occasion I was being taught by Dr Peter Resteghini and Hannah was being taught by lecturer Carol Resteghini, who is Peter's wife."
