A global audience of prospective University of East London (UEL) students watched Sam Thompson from Made in Chelsea and Pete Wicks from The Only Way Is Essex battle it out at the University of East London in an East London vs West London game show.

The live broadcast aimed to showcase the University in a fun way, providing information about courses, fees and finance, accommodation, student life and available support.

Pete praised, "I can honestly say what a fantastic campus this is with amazing facilities and, most importantly in this new world we are all experiencing, Covid-security."

This year the University launched the brand-new Career Zone that you can access online via the Track My Future platform. This platform is the go-to for all your student needs.  Career Zone gives you everything you need to kick start your career journey at the University, from internships to part-time jobs that can fit around your studies. It truly is an amazing platform for all students,"

Pete Wicks, star of The Only Way is Essex, said.

The event included a number of videos from staff, current students and alumni.

Professor Amanda Broderick, vice-chancellor and president, reassured viewers, "We are in unprecedented times with the current public health crisis, but we have taken collective, resolute action to ensure our students are fully supported through their studies, protecting the health and wellbeing of our students, staff and the wider community.

And that community includes you - our future students. We want to help you focus on your hopes and dreams for the future and the new opportunities awaiting you."

Co-host Cheyanne Meyer, a business law student and Residential Life scholar from Washington DC, provided insight into her decision to study at UEL.

She said, "One of the best things about living at Docklands, besides the convenience of living so close to campus, is definitely the view and the location."

Speaking about choosing UEL as an international student, Cheyanne said, "I can say without a doubt that it was the best decision I ever made and as scary as this whole thing is - and trust me I know it's terrifying - it has been the best thing I've ever done. So, my advice is to take the leap and say yes to changing your life and say yes to UEL."

The hosts also chatted to representatives from East London Sport and the Students' Union, as well as alumni.

Following her performance of an original song, Insia Durrani, a film student and elected officer of the Students' Union, spoke to Sam and Pete about the role of the SU and said one of the best parts about studying at UEL is the location.

She said, "One of our main priorities is making sure students are safe so our events and activities are safe - and have been online through the pandemic.

"I feel so privileged to live and study in such a culturally and diversely rich city. Even a day out in London feels like a holiday, it is so amazing."

Throughout the event, Sam and Pete competed for victory in a number of challenges, including about how much they knew about the University of East London - ultimately, East defeated West.

The event was produced in a live studio built on the University's Stratford campus by staff and students in the School of Arts and Creative Industries.
