Our taekwondo club
The UEL Taekwondo Club revolves around respect, friendship and self-development. Our athletes aim to transcend their levels and achieve highly in all aspects of Taekwondo. The Korean martial art of Taekwondo is a relatively modern one, formed by amalgamating the most effective aspects of several other Korean, Japanese and Chinese systems. Today it is one of the most popular martial arts in the world, and one that we are very proud to have here at UEL.
Here at UEL, we focus on both the sport and art aspects of the game, so whether you want to win medals in sparring competitions, develop your flexibility and technique, or learn how to defend yourself, there's something here for everyone. The majority of new members have no prior experience in martial arts, so you definitely don't need to be a black belt to join us!
Although technically an individual sport when it comes to competition, the club fosters a strong sense of team spirit and respect amongst our members. It's a great way to meet new people from all walks of life, and you're sure to develop some great friendships on your way to black belt status, as well as some other invaluable and, at times, unexpected, skills to help you through life.
For the past four years, the UEL Taekwondo Club has been led by head coach, Suj Fiaz. Master Fiaz is one of the longest serving coaches within UELSports which is exemplified by his dedication to constantly improve the club.
Master Fiaz is able to provide Taekwondo opportunities for UEL students of all abilities with the club constantly expanding and increasing its number of members.
The hard work that Master Fiaz puts in on a daily basis was recognised in 2014, when Master Fiaz won “Coach of the Year” at the annual UELSports Awards. This shows the quality of coaching that is available to everyone joining the Taekwondo Club and it is guaranteed to only get better in the future.
