Education staff and students rolled their sleeves up and got busy at a unique east London venue.
Cass School of Education and Communities Principal Lecturer Neil Herrington and a group of his trainee teacher students spent a morning at Newham City Farm, near the Docklands Light Rail’s Prince Regent station, laying a new path and providing much-needed structural work on the community garden.
The day was part of a bigger civic engagement project that aims to build links with Active Newham and EcoActive, ensuring green spaces in east London are supported and enjoyed for years to come.
Dr Herrington said the experience was valuable for both his students and the farm.
“I hope that when my students are teachers they can give this experience to their pupils,” he said. “The best part of the day was laying the gravel path. Just seeing the transformation was great.”
