As Acting Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Prof. John Joughin is the senior officer of the university with responsibility for all administrative and academic matters on behalf of the Board of Governors. Specifically, he holds the brief around the development of the academic core of the institution and is line-manager to the Deans of School, the Director of Teaching, Learning and Academic Practice, and the Director of the Graduate School. He chairs the Vice-Chancellor’s Group, the University Management Team, and Academic Board and is a member of the Board of Governors. John is responsible for ensuring the university achieves the objectives set out in our strategy “Transformation for Excellence”

Dusty is responsible for the 'people' side of the university’s business, together with improving and expanding the infrastructure and services which underpin the richness of the experience for all those studying and working at UEL. This includes our facilities, finance, human resources, IT, library and learning services, and capital works programmes.

Selena is responsible for driving implementation of the strategic plan, UEL's partnerships with external organisations including local authorities, government and business, and student services and student life, including UEL Sport. As well as ensuring that our planning and quality assurance systems are robust, Selena works to develop UEL’s contribution to our local community, and make sure our students are supported while they are at UEL and leave with the skills and experience to succeed. Selena is also responsible for our programmes developing student employability and enterprise, including the Centre of Excellence for Women’s Entrepreneurship, and for managing our international teams and partnerships.
