Last week, Level 1 BSc Sports Therapy undergraduate student Jameel Shah had a 2-day work shadow placement at Derby County FC. The historical club is one of the only ten to have competed in every single season of the English Football League and is currently competing in the Championship.

Neil Sullivan, Head of Sports Medicine of Derby County FC, told us he had great feedback from everyone that worked with Jameel last week. “He asked lots of questions, and had a really good manner with the players and the staff. He'll go far!"

Jameel Shah "It was a great experience and all of the staff and players made me feel part of the team as soon as I arrived. It was great to see first-hand how important Sports Therapy is at a professional football club, as Derby County have numerous Graduate Sports Therapists on their staff."

UEL is obviously very proud of Jameel, as Michael Cole, Sports Therapy lecturer, points out: "Jameel has excelled during the first year of his studies and had a great opportunity to observe the sports medical team at a professional football club.” Moreover, Michael points out there are plans to allow other students to follow Jameel’s footsteps in the future: “I am sure there will be further opportunities like this for all Sports Therapy students who show such commendable levels of effort, achievement and enthusiasm in their studies at UEL." So keep your ear to the ground and be that deserving student!
