Summer Placement Module: become a Community Organiser

UEL volunteers

UEL volunteers and organisers: a growing socially aware
network

Have you heard of Community Organisers? They are active members of the community that decide to take responsibility and empower people in their area. They have a set of practical and diplomatic skills and listen to people in the streets, in their homes and wherever they gather and help them take action to tackle local issues, petition the authorities and organise initiatives. If it sounds pretty cool, that’s because it is.

If you don't have any work opportunities lined up after you turn in your last essay, you might want to know that there are a limited number of places left on AI3305: Community Organising. This is a level three (Semester A) module that runs in the summer. Students taking the module undertake one week of intensive training from Monday 1 to Friday 5 July before doing a placement with one of five partners: London Citizens, the Contextual Theology Centre , Movement for Change , Unison and Unite Community.

If you are interested in taking this module you should:

-check that your programme of study enables you to take this module as an approved option or University Wide Option

-be available full time for the training which takes place from Monday 1 to Friday 5 July

-register for the module in the normal way

-have a desire to change things!

At the end of the module you will emerge with knowledge of how to organise for effective change, invaluable experience for your CV, and a network for when you graduate.
