Stratford Square when it will be completed
There's a a few good bits of history in Stratford. The wrought iron stalls of the market and the church all look straight from another time (which they are), and when you look at them, the buildings of Stratford Campus are actually quite beautiful. University House and Passmore Edwards Building are both historically listed buildings from the 19th century, with frescoes and domed roofs that speak of our uni as something tied to the history of the area and of London. When London 2012 happened, we were all blown away by how quick Stratford rose to become the metropolitan center of the rising east London. Modern architecture, shopping centres and city life moved in quicker than you can say "refurbishment".
As always, UEL moves with the times, and now there will be a shiny contemporary brother to go with the old charm of University House.
A fantastic new campus is soon opening in Stratford. University Square Stratford, or USS for short, is a brand new hub of education and activity for UEL students and students from Birkbeck, University of London.
The campus will be full of state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, so you know you’ll be studying in style. It’s also handily located just a few minutes’ walk from Stratford Station so you can enjoy all the benefits the area has to offer... Westfield Shopping Centre, I’m talking about you!
UEL’s Law, Criminology, Performing Arts and MBA students will be moving to the new campus from the start of the new academic year in September 2013. If you’re not studying one of those courses but just fancy having a look while on your way to Primark, Pinkberry and pretzels, you will be able to access the new campus using your UEL ID from September. Why go there? Well, Stratford is a special and entertaining part of town in its own right, combining charming cafes with parks and Olympic recreation and being one of the best connected areas in East London: whether you're going to Brick Lane, Vicky Park or a warehouse party in Peckham, it will be an easy ride home. Think about it...

NOTE! The new Stratford Library in the existing campus will open much sooner. For information on the new Stratford Library, read our article.
