Youth and community work involves interactions and relationships with young people and community members that help young people to develop personally and socially. Youth work has become increasingly complex and professionals in this sector work in a wide variety of educational settings.
Our teaching team consist of professional (JNC) qualified academic staff with extensive experience of youth and community work. We are actively involved in research in youth related issues, such as school inclusion, youth crime, global education and a number of us are external examiners for other UK academic and professional programmes.
Both our BA (Hons) Youth and Community Work and MA Youth and Community work programmes are professionally (JNC) validated offering successful graduates a national youth work qualification. In addition, our BA (Hons) Youth Studies and MA Youth and Community Studies programmes offer an academic framework, which encourages students to work with young people and communities in a variety of settings irrespective of their practical experience. These programmes develop transferable skills for a wide range of career paths.
A majority of our recent graduates have gone onto professional employment in youth and community work, including positions in local community organisations and schools, social services, youth services, national charities and work in international contexts.
