What was the best thing about doing PSS?
The best thing is the diversity of the subject. This was the main reason I was first attracted to the programme. The degree offers different ways to look at the relationship between ourselves, and the society we live in, whilst taking into account, history and cultural processes.
Psychosocial Studies is a unique degree and I have enjoyed the innovative quality of the subject area. The wide range of modules offered, give a good introduction to , and open up, many potential career paths. The lecturers are enthusiastic and approachable and their teaching is clear and interesting. The overall style of the degree is exciting and motivating.
What are you hoping to do?
I hope to go on to further study when I graduate. I am looking at potential MA programmes.
Top tip for new students:
Sign up for mentoring with a third year student. It helps to talk to other students while developing your own ideas about the subject area. Also, find out when your personal tutor is available.
The aspect of learning in depth about individual and society – and the development of children. Being able to apply concepts and theories to the social and cultural aspect of life in general.

Be clear in what pathway you want to follow, ask questions for guidance, don’t be shy and see your degree as a life experience to enjoy.
What was the best thing about doing (PSS)?
I have returned to education and have re-discovered the joy of learning. Combining both psychological and sociological concepts gives a new perspective. I have studied sociology and psychology on their own before and they are both too narrow. You have to be aware of both sides!
I have found the university to be very aware of the needs of mature students and people with children. As I have 3 school age children this has been important.
What are you doing now/hoping to do next?
I am applying to study for a postgraduate certificate in education in order to become a primary school teacher. I really want to be able to pass on the joy of learning to others.
