About Professional Development

Professional Development encompasses a range of subject disciplines and is best understood as learning organised around the context of work and/or employment. A flexible and negotiated work-based focus provides the process whereby you will obtain the skills, qualifications and experience that will allow you to make progress in your chosen career. We have a team of experts from a variety of professional backgrounds and cultures who have a wealth of experience working in this area for many years. Subjects studied, which have a strong educational foundation, can encompass the full complement of the university’s expertise, and is underpinned by the concept of the reflective practitioner; thus enabling both professional and personal development.

Studying theory and combining this with work-based practice ensures relevance and value to both learner and place of work and enables you to develop insights and understandings relating to your professional practice from a range of academic and professional perspectives. All programmes in this area have exceptionally flexible programme structures which allows for tailored programmes and permits learners to choose options ranging from an initial certificate; diploma; foundation degree; honours degree; masters degree; to doctorate level study. All our programmes recognise in-house learning and training and permits accreditation of this learning towards a programme of study.
