Programme summary for B.A.(Hons) Marketing

This programme enables you to combine the study of marketing as a field of expertise in the context of general business concepts and management techniques. You explore the relationships between organisations, consumers and products and consider the trends and changes that are evident in local and global markets.

This degree is the ideal preparation for careers in marketing and business, but is also relevant to a wide variety of roles within both private and public sectors.

About the programme

Why Marketing?

Effective marketing is essential to the success of all business ventures and this multi-disciplinary programme focuses on current trends in marketing and industry, while also providing a broad-based Business Studies grounding in key areas such as managing resources and getting products or services to market. Alongside theoretical knowledge you gain highly transferable and career-relevant skills, including project management and team working, problem solving, decision making and presentation of ideas and business concepts.

Programme structure

This is a flexible and multi-disciplinary programme. You undertake a series of compulsory modules and then choose from a range of options in areas of interest. Marketing can be studied as a Single Honours, Major, Joint or Minor award and assessment is through a combination of examinations and coursework, with an individual marketing project as part of your Level 3 studies.

Support

Introducing you to degree level study:

  • we have designed the assessment and teaching processes throughout the first year so that you are progressively introduced to degree study
  • we have developed a specific module in the first year that gives you the techniques needed for degree level study

Academic and administrative support :

  • our Undergraduate Student Centre which will be able to answer the queries you may have about the operation of the Marketing degrees
  • a personal tutor will be allocated to you for each year of study who can advise on academic matters and personal development planning
  • the year tutor for your programme and/or programme leader can help if you have programme related issues you wish to raise

Admission

  • 240 UCAS tariff points or equivalent
  • Pass in a recognised Access Course or International Foundation Programme

In addition to the above, we require GCSE Maths grade C and English grade C or equivalents, unless competency is part of the qualification gained.

We also welcome mature student applicants and those with relevant professional and vocational qualifications, and these will be dealt with on an individual basis and may require an interview.

Students that apply to enter Year 2 or 3 of the programme may be admitted through normal Accreditation of Experiential Learning (AEL) or Accreditation of Certificated Learning (ACL) processes, or through an approved articulation agreement.

In the case of applicants whose first language is not English, then IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) is required. International qualifications will be checked for appropriate matriculation to UK Higher Education undergraduate programmes.
