This broad-based degree shares common core modules with other Business Studies programmes, but with strong focus on the analytical techniques used in economics. The highly transferable skills you develop add value to your CV and broaden career opportunities.
The Business School has a long history of teaching economics programmes and receives consistently high rankings among peer-group universities.
The programme teaches a systematic understanding of the principles of economics, and how they are applied to business, government and society. You cover the way markets operate and the role of government and regulation. You also develop analytical reasoning abilities and gain a thorough grounding in principles and practices of economics. An economics degree opens up opportunities within government and not-for-profit sectors as well as industry and graduates often move quickly into high-paid jobs or ‘fast track’ career paths.
This programme shares a common set of modules with Business Studies in year one, providing a solid foundation in business principles and theories. In the succeeding two years, the focus switches to core economics modules. The programme includes a supervised final-year project and some taught modules also contain project-like elements.
These include corporate finance, banking, civil service and government, research and analysis. You may also choose to progress onto an MBA or Masters degree. Some Business Economics graduates move on to teaching.
For more information see Business Economics BA (Hons) Programme Specification.

Students that apply to enter Year 2 or 3 of the programme may be admitted through normal Accreditation of Experiential Learning (AEL) or Accreditation of Certificated Learning (ACL) processes, or through an approved articulation agreement.
