UEL is commited to new models of learning and is currently expanding its distance and open learning provision. I joined UEL in December 2004 as a Distance Learning Writer, working with the School of Computing to develop suitable course materials for the BSc Computing programme.
In November 2005 I was appointed as a Learning Designer. I work with the distance learning team, academic colleagues across UEL and commissioned authors to define and refine suitable models for our distance learning programmes, and to write and review interactive distance learning materials.
I originally read Mathematics at the University of Nottingham and then completed a PGCE. After qualifying I taught maths at a Nottinghamshire comprehensive but soon returned to study, gaining an MSc in Computing at Staffordshire University. This led to a research post at Staffordshire University's Centre for Intelligent Environmental Systems, where my responsibilities included software development for the Environment Agency and teaching on the MSc Computing programme. In 2004 I completed my PhD, focussing on applications of Artificial Intelligence to environmental monitoring.
