Distance learning students need ongoing, consistent and reliable support in terms of learning resources, academic support and pastoral support. At UEL we support you in a range of ways:
Each distance learning student benefits from a team of dedicated Student Advisors. The Distance Learning Student Advisors will be the first point of contact for all non-academic support matters.
Our Distance Learning Student Advisors will:
All distance learning students receive academic support from appropriately qualified academics. In many cases, the academics who support distance learning students also teach on the campus-based versions of the programmes. Moreover, UEL academics receive specialist training to support you in our online environment UEL Plus.
Academics will communicate with you via a series of virtual communication tools. This means that you may interact with your tutor via email, via a notice board, a chat room or online messaging.
Peer support is also very important and you will find a broad range of opportunities to build networks and exchange ideas with other students via our online community.
Some students join a cohort of learners and work with learning materials that require a high level of interaction and online discussion. Many of these students enjoy the comradeship which emerges over the duration of the module.
We welcome applications from prospective students with specific learning difficulties or disabilities. If you have a specific learning difficulty (such as dyslexia, for example) or a disability, please contact us to discuss the availability of support provision during your studies. You can have a confidential discussion with one of our Student Advisors.
All applications will be considered on the basis of the specific entry criteria only. While you do not have to disclose a disability, it would helpful if you complete the relevant section of the application form, so we can offer appropriate support and advice.
Please click here for more information about studying with a disability.
UEL's Distance Learning Student Charter sets out our code of conduct in dealing with you – but also what we expect in return.
We have created the Charter in the interests of transparency and fairness – and so that we all understand how our service and our facilities operate.
It covers every aspect of your time here, from application to graduation and finding employment. Every step of the way we include your rights as a student and your responsibilities to UEL.
We hope you find it a useful document – and one that enables you to make the most of your time with us.
Read The Student Charter (Adobe PDF format, you will need Adobe Reader installed)
In addition to our student charter we also have a School Service Standards document (PDF) that lays out the standards of service that we will provide and expect from you as students.
