First Aid at Work

The Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 state that 'an employer shall provide, or ensure that there are provided such equipment and facilities as are adequate and appropriate in the circumstances for enabling first aid to be rendered to his/her employees if they are injured or become ill at work'.

First Aid at Work Statutory Certificate

Aims

These courses are designed to provide the student with the knowledge and practical skill to be a competent first aider in the workplace and provide cost effective, high quality training to meet the requirements of the H.S.E. approved certificate.

Objectives

To enable the student to meet the examination requirements for the issue of a First Aid at Work Certificate (valid for three years) in accordance with the current Health and Safety at work approved code of practice.

Course content

  • resuscitation
  • treatment and control of bleeding
  • treatment of shock
  • management of the unconscious casualty
  • contents of first aid boxes and their use
  • purchasing of first aid supplies
  • transport of casualties
  • recognition of illness
  • treatment of injuries to bones, muscles and joints
  • treatment of minor injuries
  • treatment of burns and scalds
  • eye irrigation
  • poisons
  • simple record keeping
  • personal hygiene in treating wounds: reference to Hepatitis B and Human Immunodeficiency Virus with regard to first aiders
  • communication and delegation in an emergency

Learning Outcomes

On successfully completing this course and examination, students will meet the requirements of the H.S.E. approved certificate (valid for three years).

Courses are three full days' duration including examination

Training manuals are provided for First aid at Work Statutory Certificate courses. Courses are normally run on four consecutive days, 9.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. If sufficient demand exists, alterative formats can be arranged.

In-house courses

Organisations with sufficient candidates and suitable accommodation may, when possible have courses conducted on their own premises. These courses prove popular and are very cost effective.

Requalification courses

First Aid at Work - Statutory Renewal
First Aiders needing to update their qualifications may attend a two day requalification course and examination providing that a period of not longer than three years has lapsed from the date of the previous certificate.

Course Fees, Booking and Cancellations

Course Fees:

  • Full Course: £200.00
  • Requalification Course: £125.00

Deposit of £50 payable with booking (non refundable without medical certificate). Fees can be paid by credit card or cheque (payable to University of East London). Companies can be invoiced against an official order.

Cancellation

The full course fee will be payable in the event of cancellation within seven working days of the course.

Requalification Courses - 2 Days, Thursday & Friday
