As a part-time undergraduate student you may be eligible for financial assistance to help you pay your way.
For undergraduate students, part-time study is defined as taking no more than two 20 credit modules in each of the two semesters for which you are enrolled. Where a double module spans 2 academic years and takes the number of credits to 100 credits registered over the year, students may remain part-time provided that they take no more than 20 credits in the first semester of the following year (and 60 credits registered over the whole of that year).
If you are studying our New Beginnings 2 programme to gain entry to your degree programme, you also get a bursary to assist with the cost of each New Beginnings module.
If you study three or four modules in each academic year, you can apply to your local authority for an income-assessed grant of up to £250. Any money you receive is yours to keep.
You may also be able to apply to the Access to Learning Fund, which provides discretionary financial assistance to students on a low income. Find out more about assistance for part-time students from UEL’s Student Money and Rights Team (SMART).
As a part-time student, you aren’t eligible for Council Tax exemption, but you may find your bills are reduced (this depends on your total household income). Contact your local authority for more advice.
Government grants are not usually available, but there are alternative sources of finance.
You may be able to apply for a Career Development Loan, which defers interest fees and repayments until you have completed your studies. Find out more.
UEL offer a partial fee waiver fund for postgraduate part-time UK/EU students, which means a saving of up to 50 per cent of tuition fees (up to a maximum of £500). You may be eligible if you are in receipt of certain benefits or allowances or your gross household income is below a specified amount. Find out more.
You can also find out more about fees and sources of support from our Postgraduate prospectus.
