As a part-time student at UEL you have a choice of start times and we give you freedom to decide the hours you put in.
You can start many programmes in either September or February. If you opt to study undergraduate programme via distance learning, you will also have the option of starting in May.
Applications are simple to make as you apply direct. If you would like guidance on choosing the best programme for you, get advice before you apply.
That really depends on you. For example, most part-time undergraduate degree students take around five years to complete their Honours programme (as opposed to three years full-time), but we also have students who take more or less time to achieve their chosen qualification. Find out more about your varied study options.
UEL’s programmes are divided into modules (study units) and as a part-time student you can decide the number of modules you wish to take during each semester (term). You are assigned a personal tutor who will assist you in planning the number of hours you give to your studies.
Remember that we provide 24/7 learning support through our Libraries and learning centres and via our virtual learning environment UEL Plus – so that means you can put in the hours whenever you have the time.
We welcome students from all backgrounds and recognise that you may have been out of education for a while, or lack formal qualifications such as A Levels (see what qualifications do I need?).
We offer short introductory programmes to prepare you for both the teaching methods and the academic standards of a university programme. These programmes run from late April to July and we also have intensive two-day courses in September, including subject specific programmes for Psychology and Law.
We also offer a specially designed 14-week UEL-validated programme called New Beginnings 2, giving you a taster of university study and enabling you to develop skills and knowledge for degree-level learning. You can also get advice before you apply or visit one of our Open Days.
We are flexible if you need to find an alternative way to complete your programme. You may be able to switch from part-time to full-time study. We also offer distance learning and the option to take a break from your studies by arrangement with your tutor.
