What qualifications do I need?

Here’s a guide to typical qualifications needed to join a degree programme at UEL. Remember that we are happy to offer more advice if you contact us through email: advisors@uel.ac.uk.

Degree

Entry for most school or college leavers is based on existing qualifications such as A Levels, GNVQs or BTEC. The grades you received are converted into UCAS tariff points. Find details of requirements for each degree programme in the prospectus – typically you will need from 160 points.

Extended Degree and Foundation Degree

Entry requirements for extended and foundation degrees are more flexible and they may provide an ideal route if you don’t have traditional academic qualifications or have been out of education for a long time. The prospectus gives a guide to typical course requirements.

Life and work experience count!

If you are a mature student (aged over 21) when you start your degree programme, have been away from education for a while or lack formal or current educational qualifications, we take other factors into account. These include:

  • successful completion of an approved Access course
  • recent study experience, including UEL short courses
  • evidence of particular skills gained through training or employment
  • professional qualifications.

You can contact us through email: advisors@uel.ac.uk for more guidance, or check out our Accreditation of Experiential Learning (AEL) pages for more information about forms of learning that may count towards your place at UEL.

Postgraduate study

Individual programme pages list entry requirements, which normally include a first degree or equivalent. For MBA programmes we also look for a minimum of two years’ relevant workplace experience.

If you gained your qualifications overseas, remember that we accept a wide range of qualifications from across the world and may also take into account other skills and experience. Find out more.
