UEL offer a wide range of programmes leading to nationally recognised qualifications.
A degree normally includes 18 modules (study units) and typically takes five years to complete on a part-time basis.
It leads to a BA, BSc or BEng degree qualification (Bachelor of Arts, Science or Engineering). We also offer LLB, which is a Bachelor of Law Degree. Most programmes are Honours awards - the highest degree award - and mean the description (Hons) is included in your degree qualification.
A two-subject (Combined Honours) degree requires the same amount of study (and costs the same) as a single subject degree, and is a great option if you want to broaden career options or pursue two interests.
Combined Honours degrees are increasingly valued by employers as they demonstrate an ability to prioritise, manage time and handle wide-ranging information effectively.
You can either place equal weight on two subjects (Joint Honours) or study for a Major/Minor award – which means two thirds of your time is spent on one subject and one third on the other.
This takes longer than a degree because it includes an introductory period of study (one extra academic year) that gives a grounding in university-style teaching and assists you in making a successful transition to degree-level study.
An increasing number of UEL programmes are available with the extended degree option, and it’s a popular choice for students who lack formal academic qualifications or are studying an area that is completely new to them.
Integrating academic and work-based learning, foundation degrees are designed in partnership with employers and are the ideal route if you want to improve your skills and career prospects but don’t have academic qualifications.
Foundation programmes typically take three years to complete part-time and lead to an FdA, FdSc or FdEd award (Foundation Degree in Arts, Science or Education).
A valuable qualification in its own right, this may give you the option to complete a full Honours degree with one further year’s full-time study. You may, of course, choose the part-time option to gain this extra qualification. If you are interested in combining study and work, you may also be interested in work-based learning.
UEL has a thriving postgraduate community and we are rated among the top ten post-1992 universities for research. You will find a variety of programmes to further your career or offer opportunities for scholarly research.
A taught Masters (MA, MBA, MSc) or Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert) award can take as little as two years to achieve part-time. For more information see postgraduate programmes.
