Screening for Dyslexia/ Specific Learning Differences

If you think you are dyslexic, or have a specific learning difference, please call 020 8223 7611 (10am – 2pm Mon – Fri)to book a 'screening appointment'. We have limited places and they will be booked on a first-come-first-served bassis.

If you would like to independently arrange an assessment of dyslexia, PATOSS (Professional Association of Teachers of Specific Learning Difficulties) can provide details of appropriately qualified assessors in your area. The cost of assessments vary, but are generally about £350. Contact PATOSS on 01386 712650 or patoss@sworcs.ac.uk.

We can offer UEL students a dyslexia/Specific Learning Differences (SpLD) assessment service, which begins with a screening.

The screening will give you an opportunity to discuss your experience of learning, both positive and negative, with a specialist practitioner. From this they will be able to determine if there is a 'likelyhood' of you having a specific learning difference, or dyslexia. They may recommend you have a full diagnostic assessment.

There will be a charge of £50 for a full diagnostic assessment, as a contribution towards the total cost.

If you think you are dyslexic and would like support in the meantime, then please attend our weekly study skills workshops on both campuses or view them on-line through UEL PLus.

What Happens Next?

If the screening shows sufficient signs of dyslexia/SpLD your advisor may refer you for a specialist assessment. If this assessment concludes you have an SpLD, your advisor will discuss with you how to access support and the necessary funding.
