Mental Health

Are you struggling with mental health difficulties, stressed out or just feeling that 'things aren't right'?

Mental health difficulties exist across a wide spectrum which can range from mild stress reactions to more serious mental health disorders.

It is hoped that the challenges of studying at UEL should enhance self-esteem and confidence, but even positive life events can put a strain on individual students.

Coming to University can bring with it different and more complex life issues to deal with. You may be struggling with common mental difficulties such as depression, anxiety, agitation, anger, eating disorders, self harm, sleep disturbance, low motivation, poor concentration and difficulties in decision making.

You may be suffering from a severe and enduring mental health disorder which could be considered as a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act (1995) and Special Educational Needs and Disability Act (2001).

Whatever the difficulty there may be a need for more formal support, either to help you manage the adverse impact of these difficulties on your studies, or to get access to the right treatment and health care.

UEL promotes a culture which encourages students to disclose any mental health difficulties while providing a framework to support and respond appropriately to student mental health concerns.

We have a leaflet with more detailed mental health advice and useful links, which you can download here.

For confidential advice and support on all mental health issues please contact the Wellbeing Team on 020 8223 7611 (10am – 2pm Mon – Fri) or e-mail wellbeing@uel.ac.uk

For confidential advice and support on all disability related issues please see the section on the Disability, Dyslexia & Access Centre.
