Dyslexia can affect the processing of information that is both received and expressed. There is a recognisable pattern of difficulties, although it does not affect everyone in quite the same way, and some people's experiences are more extreme than others.
People with dyslexia tend to have the following profile:

|---|---|
| Creative | Poor organisation and time-management skills |
| Sees the bigger the picture | Inaccurate reading and weak comprehension |
| Can have good verbal communication skills | Slow at reading |
| Thinking outside the box | Poorly structured assignments |
| Emotional awareness - reading non-verbal language | Weak spelling |
| Visual | Weak memory |
| Intuitive | Difficulty following multi-step instructions |
| Insightful | Word finding difficulties {"tip of the tongue" syndrome) |
| Perceptive | Slow to process information that is seen/heard |
| Can be very motivated | Falling behind with note-taking |
| Creative problem-solving abilities | Late for appointments |
