We would like to encourage all eligible applicants to apply for the scholarships as they provide a great way for your to support your studies and get off to a flying start at university.

“The Undergraduate Scholarship has helped me a lot with my living expenses and needs since moving to London. It has been a little push for me financially, becoming a student, but this great initiative from UEL has helped me concentrate on my study and develop academically and socially.
I think it is great that this kind of support is available to students like me each year.”

I am really interested in modern dance and I am currently involved in 2 urban dance groups in my local area called Rhythm and the other Move It; I joined Rhythm 2 years ago and Move It about 6 months ago.
During the time that I have been with the dance groups my performance and choreography skills have developed significantly and as a result I have achieved a number of awards and have won local and national dance competitions and performed at several community events.
I have also been involved in coaching the younger members of the dance group and choreographing their routines for competitions and events. As well as dancing and choreographing I have also helped with making costumes and managing our My Space pages and working on sound tracks for our routines.
My Achievements in the last 18 months include performances at the London Youth Games, Street Dance Weekender at the Hammersmith Apollo and Breakout (women’s theatre) and competing at South London’s Got Talent and The Royal Academy of Dance Young Performers where I won 1st place at both.
I am really looking forward to starting university and I am very excited that I will now be taking my love of dance to another level by incorporating it with my education. I hope that the further development of my personal skills will help me with my roles in teaching young people to dance and will help me have a successful performance and competition career.
For the past 5 years I have been a member of the London Borough of Newham Swimming Club (LBNSC) and have enjoyed several successes. This year I have won gold in the regional championships for 100m backstroke and broke the club record that has stood for several years. I have also enjoyed successes in the Essex County Championships, winning gold in the men’s 4x100m freestyle and medalay races.
A sports scholarship from UEL would enable me to carry on training and competing with LBNSC. I would use the scholarship to pay for my club fees and to help with travel costs. I would also hope and like to compete in the student national championships representing The University of East London.
I am applying for the Citizenship scholarship at UEL as I believe the time that I have spent serving my community as a member of St John’s Ambulance and within the Scout Association makes me an ideal candidate.
I have been a member of both associations for 10 years and enjoy the opportunity that they give me to work in the community and with lots of different people. The work has provided me with a deeper understanding of my community and the world and has enabled me to develop as a person. My work with St. John’s sees me attending sporting and community events and has made me decide that I would like to be a sports coach and work with young people as my chosen career. In 2008 I was chosen by an interview panel as St. John’s cadet of the year for Hertfordshire, this was the first time some one from my division has achieved this award.
I am currently an assistant leader at my local Scout group. I work with the Cubs who are aged 7 -11 which I really enjoy. This summer I will be joining them at an international camp that will be attended by Scouts all round the world. I am looking forward to meeting with people from other countries and cultures and think that this will be a great experience before starting my studies at UEL. The Achievement Scholarship will help fund my first year of study and allow me to combine my academic and extra curricular activities.
