Part Time Undergraduate Students

If you're a part time, undergraduate student, here’s a round up of the financial support you are entitled to, plus additional funds that you may be eligible for.

Part time bursary

From September 2011 all new and continuing part-time ‘home’ and EU students will be charged £562 per module and students will receive an automatic bursary of £281 per module.

No application is necessary. The bursary is not means tested and is non-repayable. If fees are paid in full before September 2011 (exact date to be confirmed) students will get a 5% early payment discount on the net price to be paid. As an alternative you may choose to spread the cost of your fees over the first five months of your studies starting with a payment in September 2011.

Phone 020 8223 7526 or e-mail creditcontrol@uel.ac.uk for further details.

Value of part time bursary

The fees for different amounts of part time study are set out below:

Fee Grant

In addition to the help that UEL provides, the government also provides some extra help for part-time students from low income households. The Fee Grant is only available to ‘home’ and EU students studying three or four modules each academic year.

If your household income is less than £28,065 per year you should get some help. If the household income is less than £16,845 you should get the maximum rate of help. The maximum rate of help for students studying three modules is £820 towards fees, and the maximum rate of help for someone studying four modules is £985 towards fees. Students who already have a degree are not normally eligible for this support. There are no age restrictions for part-time student support.

Course Grant

Part-time ‘home’ students studying three or four modules in each academic year can apply to their LA for an incomeassessed, non-repayable grant of up to £265 on the same PTG1 Form.

Part Time Childcare Grant

If you are a 'home' student parent from a low income household and don’t receive the childcare element of Working Tax Credit you may be eligible for this grant to help cover childcare costs. Your childcare must be OFSTED registered or accredited. Applications are assessed on a first come first served basis and limited funds are available.

PLEASE NOTE: The part time childcare grant is open from 12th September 2011 to 15th April 2012. Download an application form here.
