Student Money, Advice and Rights Team (SMART)


National Student Money Week 12-16 March 2012

The Student Money Advice and Rights Team (SMART) are holding a series of events to help you manage your money.

Events include:

* Sumo debt wrestling

* The Health and Wellbeing Team will be promoting healthy eating on a budget

* Chance to win the contents of a hamper and other prizes

* Top money-saving tips

2012/13 Student Finance England service is now open!

The Student Finance England service for academic year 2012/13 is now open. New and continuing students can apply online at

www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

Students don't need to have a confirmed place at university to apply. We're encouraging students to apply online as early as possible to make sure they get the money they're entitled to at the start of term.

The deadline for submitting applications is 31 May for new students and 29 June for continuing students.

Target audience: All Home, full-time & part-time, undergraduate and postgraduate students


Payment of Loans and Grants

As from September 2011 there is NO need to bring your Payment Timetable into the University to be processed. Confirmation of your attendance will be automatically sent to the Student Loans Company once you have completed your online enrolment and your Payment Task.

If your funding does not come through within five working days of the payment date on your Payment Timetable, please email smart@uel.ac.uk giving your name and student number. Where possible please attach a scanned copy of your Payment Timetable.

SAAS students ONLY are required to present their Payment Timetables at the Student Helpdesks (at either Docklands or Stratford) to have their attendance confirmation manually sent to the Student Loans Company.

If you haven't yet applied for your student loans and grants, go to www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance and apply as soon as possible.


Tuition Fees and Funding from September 2012 Onwards

Opening Hours

PLEASE BE AWARE STUDENTS WILL BE REGISTERED TO THE DROP IN SESSIONS TWENTY MINUTES PRIOR TO THE START OF EACH SESSION. ONLY THE FIRST EIGHT STUDENTS WILL BE SEEN FOR EACH SESSION.

SMART will be based in our normal offices. Students attending the drop in sessions will need to report to the Student Services Helpdesks at Stratford and Docklands;
