We can sometimes provide support to students who get into financial difficulty. The two key sources of emergency income are detailed below. Also see How to apply.
The Access to Learning Fund provides discretionary financial assistance for students to help them access and remain in higher education – particularly those students who need help to meet costs that cannot be met from other sources of support. The fund can help to alleviate unexpected financial hardship. Students who may be considering leaving higher education because of financial problems are encouraged to apply.
The Access to Learning Fund is for students who are classified as ‘home’ for tuition fee purposes and meet standard residency requirements.
Eligibility for statutory support will be considered in every assessment, regardless of whether students have applied for and received any statutory support. Full time undergraduate students will only be considered for help once they have received the first instalment of their Maintenance Loan. Part time undergraduate students must have applied for and be in receipt of the maximum Fee Grant and Course Grant via Student Finance England.
The Access to Learning Fund is open from 17th October 2011 to 20th April 2012. Please note these deadlines are strictly adhered to. Applications will be assessed strictly on a first come first served basis as there are limited funds available. Providing your application has been accurately completed and all the required evidence supplied, an assessment and decision should be made within six working weeks of submission.
The Summer Support Fund provides discretionary financial assistance to full time undergraduate students who are suffering financial difficulty because they cannot work during the summer vacation due to one or more of the following reasons:
The Summer Support Fund is now closed.

For more information visit Africa Educational Trust or download the AET Grant / Scholarship Letter.
