Environmental sustainability

We recognise our responsibility to embed environmental sustainability into all that we do from teaching and research to business operations. We are committed to continually improving environmental performance across all of our activities.

You can expect us to:

• Ensure that the campus environment is clean and welcoming.
• Provide appropriate recycling facilities and promote waste minimisation.
• Work towards reducing carbon dioxide emissions and implement energy efficiency measures.
• Conserve and enhance biodiversity across the estate.
• Purchase products and services using sustainability criteria.
• Provide up-to-date information on how we’re addressing environmental issues, through UEL publications, events, and our website:  www.uel.ac.uk/greenthing.

We expect you to:

• Recycle appropriate materials using the recycling bins provided and not drop litter.
• Save energy e.g. by switching off lights and electronic equipment when not in use.
• Print double-sided, and only when necessary.
• Save water e.g. by turning taps off fully when not in use.
