Student Life

Your time at UEL is about more than just studying, it’s about new experiences, going to new places and making new friends. We give you the opportunity to make the most of your time here by getting involved with activities on campus and supporting you in your studies.

You can visit the Student Service Helpdesk for any information or advice.  The Services at UEL are here for you, to assist you with your studies, make your life easier and to make your time as a student more enjoyable. So make sure you make the most of them!

UEL Sports
UEL Sports is your one-stop-shop for sports and exercise at UEL. If you’re interested in keeping fit, recreational sport or competitive sporting action then check out the wide range of sporting facilities available. UEL offers affordable membership prices to students.

UEL Students’ Union (UELSU)
UELSU is run by students, for students, allowing you to have a real impact on the running of your university by voting or standing in SU elections.  UELSU run events and help students set up societies and groups, making sure that the campus is vibrant with student-led events and activities. They also offer lots of volunteering opportunities for students, opportunities for leadership roles on campus (programme reps.) and confidential academic advice should you need it.

Employment and Enterprise
The Employability and Enterprise team are dedicated to making sure you get the best support to enter into the world of work.  They can help you with a CV, host annual careers events, promote job vacancies, and can advise you on starting up your own business.

Money Matters
Our Student Money Advice and Rights Team (SMART) are on hand to give you practical advice and information about how to manage your money and ensure you don't miss out on any sources of funding. There are several scholarships and bursaries that students can apply for, all details can be found on our fees and funding pages.

Free Books
Undergraduate students starting their studies in September 2012 or later will benefit from our free book offer which allows you free skills books when you start your course and one free textbook for every module you study.

Health and Wellbeing
The Health and Wellbeing team offer information, advice and one-to-one appointments. They can give general health advice, family planning advice, treatments, smoking cessation and weight management. They can also help refer you to a GP or a dentist.

Study Support
You can arrange a Personal Tutor to assist you with academic advice – from coursework and assessments to accessing information.

Disability, Dyslexia and other SpLD
If you think you may be dyslexic, or have a specific learning difficulty, you can book a screening appointment.  If you already have a diagnostic report, our team is committed to helping you achieve full participation and reach your potential.

Childcare
On Docklands Campus we have Children’s Garden which offers full or part-time care for children under school age, we also offer advice on grants and entitlements and flexible learning for student parents.

Chaplaincy
The UEL Chaplaincy provides for the spiritual needs and well-being of students and staff - of all faiths and none. They offer pastoral and personal support, opportunities for personal and spiritual growth, as well as worship and religious services.
