We know that it’s important for you to get your finance sorted. We don’t want you to be worrying about your bank balance when deadlines for coursework start rolling in.
Our Student Money Advice and Rights Team (SMART) is available on campus to provide you with information and advice regarding money and give you guidance about any funding you are entitled to receive.
For further information, please visit the Student Money Advice and Rights Team’s pages (SMART)
During First Week, they will also be available in the Hub in the library at Docklands campus. If you have specific questions about funding, email the SMART team at smart@uel.ac.uk
You can apply for the student finance package of loans and grants via an online form. It is important that you complete this as early as possible and preferably before starting at UEL. You must complete this form within nine months of starting at UEL otherwise you may lose your full entitlement to student funding.
The Government offers part-time foundation degree, BA/BSc, LLB and certificate of higher education students’ non-repayable fee grants towards the cost of your course fees, and course grants to help with the additional costs of studying, such as books and travel. To apply, you will need to fill out a PTG1 form.
There is currently no government support available in the form of grants or loans for most postgraduate qualifications. There are exceptions such as for PGCE students. Postgraduate students needing financial assistance to support their studies are advised to look online at www.direct.gov.uk/adultlearning or phone 0800 585 505.
There are also educational trusts and charities that make individual awards to students and lists of these can be found in most public libraries. You can also contact the Educational Grants Advisory Service (EGAS) on 020 7254 6251, or look on the EGAS website.
