Green IT with Eureka

IT suffers from inefficient practices – through the speed of growth in computing and communication, many inefficiencies have been unintentionally created. For example, IBM estimates for every 100kWh of electricity supplied to a typical data centre, as little as 3 kWhs are actually used to do productive work – the remaining energy consumed by starting up and cooling the underused hardware.

We aim to :

• Raise awareness and educate companies and organisations in Green IT issues. By delivering workshops and consultations we want to encourage sustainable IT operations.
• Work with colleagues in embedding sustainability within the academic curricullum.
• Work within the community to raise awareness of the impact of IT.

In addition to working with Eureka we are involved with the BCS Green IT SG and UELs Environmental Sustainability initiatives.
